Acorn Independence offers a tri-part approach to inspire young people to achieve outcomes through therapeutic engagement, work and education opportunities as well as outbound activities designed to motivate, incentivise and inspire. This approach has been developed in consultation with our young people who have shared with us the barriers they have faced and the ways in which they want to be supported
We focus on investing in staff training and identifying areas where additional support can be provided, either by our in-house wellbeing practitioner and experienced managers or sourced from accredited training providers.
Discover Independence
Shared Homes
Our shared homes offer 24 hour staffed support, during which intensive work is completed including a placement plan with monthly strategies and outcomes, an independence plan and handbook alongside bespoke training accredited for Care Leavers. Monthly reviews assess progress and after the completion of this work the Young Person transitions to one of our solo occupancy accommodations with reduced support.
Solo Occupancy
Our solo occupancy accommodations offer bespoke outreach support packages which are reviewed monthly and progressively reduce support until the young person is able to live independently.
Our Services
+16 Provision
We provide supported accommodation services to help young people in their transition to adulthood.
Outbound
Delivered in partnership with local experts we provide an extensive range of activities and education opportunities and work based support.
Therapeutic Engagement
We believe that a young person who has experienced trauma in early life will have further challenges to meet in addition to those that every teenager is likely to face.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT
We work closely with existing providers during these difficult times to ensure that full inclusion and preparation are of paramount importance.
Key Support Areas
Acorn Outbound is an inclusive department of Acorn Independence designed to inspire determination, strength of character and self-confidence within the young people in our care.
Activities
Our outbound department organises motivational activities such as cooking lessons, camping, rock climbing, coasteering, driving lessons, paddle boarding and surfing which link to the young persons planned outcomes either by providing an opportunity for social and skills development or as an incentive for progressing in education and work.
Education
Prior to placement with ourselves education and work may have been sporadic, stressful and demotivating, however with intensive input from key workers and therapeutic engagement reducing anxieties a young person will be more able to take advantage of the following opportunities.
